Legal opinion on status of Sheik Jarrah properties!

A new expert opinion from Ronit Levine-Schnur submitted in the Israeli Supreme court in regards to the Sheikh Jarrah case states that the Jordanian government granted refugee families full property rights in their homes, and even began a process of settling and registering properties in the families’ names, until the procedure was interrupted in the 1967 war.

The opinion presents documents showing how in April 1967 a detailed list of the families and the boundaries of each plot and plot was completed. However, the war that broke out two months later interrupted the settlement proceedings, and the Israeli government never continued them.

The opinion analyzes the legal situation that existed in Jordan and states that the Jordanian government had the authority to grant rights in Jewish property in certain cases, and the opinion shows that Israel also used to grant ownership of similar land.

During the Knesset debates during the enactment of the law, it was stated regarding property transferred to third parties by the Jordanians: “This house will not be returned.” Israel and should be realized in the framework of settlement procedures as soon as possible.
